Let’s talk about a new product idea today, inspired by my friend Josh. This one will venture very close to the ipad (that is still a terrible name) Especially since apple just announced a smaller and better ipad now called the ipon. Okay all joking aside. . . can you believe I just published that?
Okay, this is a stand alone laptop with one specific purpose. To take TV to a place where it is going to go anyways. Watch for it. With ustream.com in full swing, we are going to continue to change our lives, and our eyeballs to stay one the internet longer and for more things each day. Why would you listen to the radio when you can watch TV? Why would you watch TV when you can watch ustream?
First advantage to ustream is no commercials. It would take a very small budget to get a ustream channel and produce the news just as you see it on your TV. Second, the news on TV is slow. Twitter will beat any news feed by 30 minutes or maybe 4 hours depending on when the news goes on. Finally, it is interactive. When you are on ustream, you can participate in the live chat. Regular television will lose much ground, just as newspapers and magazines have.
It is no secret that products will be developed around this culture shift. Let’s get to the product that I am proposing today. I will call it the. . . . I don’t know. . . the wieam? wi-fi stream??. . . email me when you have a good name contact@verybigideas.com
Wi-Fi: Build in wireless is a must, this is where it gets the ustream feed.
Remote: Televisions have remotes, this one should come with buttons that can program to your favorite channels. Make it easy to search categories and find similar shows with the remote. It will clip right into the TV.
Mount: I want this mounted in my kitchen so I can watch while I cook and interact with a cooking channel live. I can also interact with the news as it rolls in. Remember now that anyone can have a channel, local news reporters will be popping up all over. It easily comes off the mount so I can take it all over the house, in my car, and to Starbucks.
Interface: Touch screen. . . or even better. . . put a keyboard on the back of the remote. We all text just as fast as we type now anyways. Take out touch screen if it lowers cost significantly.
Screen: Has multiple sections options or pops full screen. I want to see my twitter feed always, so I included that, also I have related channels on the right side, and of course a section where I can see the interactive chat happening. Maybe that should go where I drew in the keyboard.
Okay, so there you have wieam. Put the pricing around $200 and these will sell. I wonder if ustream would be interested in a partnership. I’m going to contact them now and see what they say. . . If you have ideas on how to make this product better, comment or email anytime.

You know the Boxee Box has a qwerty keyboard on the back of its remote.
